Charity Help

de Poel supports the Adventure Ashram project.

The project aims to provide medical and educational care for the remote village communities that surround the mountain hill station of Kodaikanal in the Palani Hill region of Southern India.

Kodaikanail is a town with a population of about 40,000 situated at an altitude of 2200 metres above Mean Sea Leveil.   The "Upper Hill" villages in the Kodaikanal area have total population of 30,000 people and are inhabited mostly by daily wage earners and farmers with small holdings.   The need for proper medical facilities is strongly felt as these villages are 30-40 kilometres by road from the nearest hospital and, in such extreme terrain without transport, in many cases this is 40 kilometres too far!

de Poel is committed to arranging a series of voluntary activities to help raise funds and enhance the standard of living in these villages through the promotion of education, health and a better understanding of the environment.
In October 2008 de Poel CEO, Matthew Sanders, took part in the Karma Enduro motoring adventure, driving 2000km across the Western Ghat mountain range and crossing the testing and diverse terrain of Goa, Kerala, Kamataka and Tamil Nadu. The aim is to raise awareness and sufficient funds to build a much needed hospital in Kodaikanal.

de Poel participates in a wide variety of environmental charity work,  including the donation of mobile phones to the RSPCA and IT equipment to the local young cadets.

de Poel support local and national charities through out the year, to date we have donated, £32, 480.38.

Jarrold Mollison - raising funds for MacMillan Caner Support, Whizz Kidz, Sightfirrst 2

I took place in the 26th annual Knowle Fun Run with 2,000 other people, this was a 5 mile run which took place on Sunday 10th May. I am only a novice runner so my time was 48 minutes. I raised £200 for the charities which were MacMillan Cancer Support, Whizz Kidz - who provide mobility solutions for disabled children and Campaign Sightfirst 2 - which helps to combat childhood blindness around the world.

Jarrold Mollison - raising funds for Baby Lifeline, with friend Jean Holt

Baby Lifeline - is the leading mother and baby charity, supports the care of pregnancy and birth. As well as providing vital technology for maternity and special care baby units, it also provides 'cutting edge', specialist training for health professionals.

Our mission was to drive the car you see before you over 1,500 miles across France, Switzerland and Italy ending up in Nice.

The car was purchased on ebay for the princely sum of £300, but having sold some non essential parts that came with it now stands us at £200. It is a 1987 BMW 730i and it has covered 176,000 miles across its 6 owners and now sports a bespoke paint job courtesy of Jean Holt (Pauls Mum) and a friend http://www.jeanholt.co.uk/ Thanks Jean!

We set off on Thursday 18th June and return on the 22nd June 2009.

Sponsorship - Jordan riding high with de Poel

For the second consecutive year de Poel is proud to sponsor 18 year old Jordan Thompson in his quest for the 2009 Bennett's British Superbike GP125 Championship title.

Jordan, who comes from Marple Bridge in Cheshire has been racing since the age of 11, winning the European Minibike Championships in 2005.  The talented young rider joined Team Appleyard/Macadam for the 2008 season and has continued in 2009, where he is currently performing well.

We wish Jordan all the very best for the remainder of the season.  For further information and race updates please go to www.colinappleyardracing.com or www.jordanthompson.co.uk

23 June 2009 - Press Release

It was steady as you go for both Team Colin Appleyard/Macadam Racing riders at Snetterton at the weekend.

Kev Coghlan, who has taken Ashley Beech's seat on the team's Supersport bike on a couple of occasions, got a last minute ride in the world series in San Marino so it was left to Jordan Thompson and Deane Brown to fly the flag for the team.  In the Junior Superstock 600 Championship Jordan Thompson went well in practice and eventually qualified on the third row of the grid.  However in Sunday's race, in near perfect racing conditions, he got off to a poor start and never really recovered, eventually crossing the line in a disappointing 16th place.

Afterwards Team Manager Robin Appleyard was forthright in his comments: "Whilst we have made some progress this season on occasions Jordan just seems to switch off when racing.  Off the track he trains hard and his attitude is positive but come the race he now needs to raise his game and show us what he can do.  I know he's in a tough group but he's got a good bike and a good team behind him so there is no reason why he shouldn't be aiming for consistent top eight finishes, because he can go quicker than he currently is...we will get there!"

In the 125cc Championship Deane Brown is starting to show glimpses that his confidence is returning after his injury earlier in the season.  In an effort to get as much time on the bike as possible he put in a full five practice sessions to qualify in 13th place for Sunday's race.  Off the grid he went well but unfortunately the bike did not perform and in the end he did well to finish 12th.  Afterwards his frustrated manager said: "We're all a little disappointed but it wasn't Deane's fault, the bike let him down and it's something we will get sorted for Knockhill.  At least it was a finish.  There's an old saying in bike racing 'The more laps you put in the faster you go' and when the bike's right, Deane is starting to go faster, it is easy to forget he is just 16, his confidence is returning and he worked hard on the track this weekend, which has been lacking recently."

With Ashley Beech out for most of the season and with Kev Coghlan picking up more and more races abroad Robin is hoping to make a decision on who will take the Supersport ride for the second half of the Championship series after all, as he says, "We're a three rider team".

For the sixth round of the Championship the team cross the border to Scotland for the Knockhill meeting on 3rd to 5th July
